Currency Design

This imagined currency design transforms the animal kingdom into an ecosystem of value, where each creature embodies a different rhythm of exchange. The Frog of the Forest (1000) - light green and luminous - represents the pulse of environmental balance, fragile yet essential, making ecological health the true measure of wealth. The Cat of the Ground (500) - in pink hues - captures independence and adaptability, bridging the wild and the domestic as the steady currency of survival and instinct. The Dolphin of the Water (200) - cool blue and fluid - symbolizes communication, intelligence, and the ceaseless motion of everyday trade. Together, these notes form a living economy where nature’s intelligence, adaptability, and interconnection redefine the meaning of exchange.

Ideation

Color Choice

Light Green (Frog - Forest): Green is the color of growth, balance, and renewal: the essence of the forest. The light tone suggests delicacy and vitality, mirroring the frog’s fragile yet vital role as a sign of environmental health.

Pink (Cat - Ground): Pink carries warmth and familiarity, tied to the cat’s closeness to humans and its graceful presence in domestic life. It’s also a playful, unexpected tone for “ground,” showing how adaptability and comfort can coexist with strength.

Cool Blue (Dolphin - Water): Blue flows naturally from the water’s world—calm, open, and connective. The “cool” tone emphasizes clarity and communication, echoing the dolphin’s intelligence and the smooth, continuous circulation of everyday exchange.

Process

This project reimagines currency as a storytelling system, using the Animal Kingdom as a metaphor for value and exchange. Each denomination is built around an animal that embodies not just its habitat but a social or ecological principle, turning money into a reflection of how ecosystems function. The color palette: light green, pink, and cool blue, was chosen to evoke emotional and environmental associations, creating harmony across the set while distinguishing each value tier. Through this project, I explored how visual design can translate complex ideas, like sustainability, adaptability, and connection, into tangible, symbolic forms. It’s about more than aesthetics; it’s about crafting a narrative of value that feels alive and meaningful.
